I am not sure if the issue is addressed or there is something else. The 7. However, I didn't check this on another device. An unknown number of people are trapped beneath the rubble of collapsed buildings in several towns. Also some speculation from my part, I think Google just didn't care much about the issue (blurring only required places), and probably does not want to work on those.Ī side note though, for about two months, when I access from my laptop, the imagery is clear. So, these are the reasons the satellite imagery are blurred in Turkey. The problem is the high resolution imagery is still viewable when you're abroad and using the Maps web version, or by using Google Earth, or tricking Google that you are visiting from somewhere else. You can somewhat make out these places since they also lack street view imagery in roads close to them. However, instead of just blurring the imagery for those sites, they lowered the satellite imagery resolution for the whole country, just like in Israel, and it stayed that way. This is done in other countries where you can see examples, like Greece (, ), Spain (, ), France ( ), Belgium ( ) etc. The main cause is Turkish authorities asked Google to blur the vulnerable areas such as military complexes and similar important sites. Google had clear satellite imagery for Turkey up until sometime around 2016. I don't know if your problem still persists but I am giving the correct answer so that you know what's really going on: "Why some places are extremely clear, some places are extremely blurred in Google" "Google Maps satellite images of intentionally blurred Turkey / low quality" Google pleasr, it looks terrible in istnabul good on other places" "Why is my country (Turkey) censored like japanese p\rn?" / lol* "Turkey is blurred out completely on Google Maps TR" "Why Turkey Google Maps satellite images blurred ?" Many news sites and forums have addressed this problem. I cannot use satellite images on the computer. I tried deleting the cookies, deleting the cache. I cannot use Google Maps satellite images. I thought it was a temporary problem, I waited for months, but the problem still persists. I explained the whole event in detail on Google Community All of my countrys satellite images are broken/blurry. Even though it is a site not belonging to my country, I solved many of my problems thanks to reddit. I typed it in Google but wanted to write it here as well. We’re excited to build a community shaping the future of the human–AI interaction paradigm. Plugin developers who have been invited off our waitlist can use our documentation to build a plugin for ChatGPT, which then lists the enabled plugins in the prompt shown to the language model as well as documentation to instruct the model how to use each. The first plugins have been created by Expedia, FiscalNote, Instacart, KAYAK, Klarna, Milo, OpenTable, Shopify, Slack, Speak, Wolfram, and Zapier. Language models today, while useful for a variety of tasks, are still limited. The only information they can learn from is their training data. This information can be out-of-date and is one-size fits all across applications. Furthermore, the only thing language models can do out-of-the-box is emit text. This text can contain useful instructions, but to actually follow these instructions you need another process. Though not a perfect analogy, plugins can be “eyes and ears” for language models, giving them access to information that is too recent, too personal, or too specific to be included in the training data. In response to a user’s explicit request, plugins can also enable language models to perform safe, constrained actions on their behalf, increasing the usefulness of the system overall. We expect that open standards will emerge to unify the ways in which applications expose an AI-facing interface. We are working on an early attempt at what such a standard might look like, and we’re looking for feedback from developers interested in building with us. Today, we’re beginning to gradually enable existing plugins from our early collaborators for ChatGPT users, beginning with ChatGPT Plus subscribers. We’re also beginning to roll out the ability for developers to create their own plugins for ChatGPT. In the coming months, as we learn from deployment and continue to improve our safety systems, we’ll iterate on this protocol, and we plan to enable developers using OpenAI models to integrate plugins into their own applications beyond ChatGPT.Ĭonnecting language models to external tools introduces new opportunities as well as significant new risks. Plugins offer the potential to tackle various challenges associated with large language models, including “hallucinations,” keeping up with recent events, and accessing (with permission) proprietary information sources. By integrating explicit access to external data-such as up-to-date information online, code-based calculations, or custom plugin-retrieved information-language models can strengthen their responses with evidence-based references. These references not only enhance the model’s utility but also enable users to assess the trustworthiness of the model’s output and double-check its accuracy, potentially mitigating risks related to overreliance as discussed in our recent GPT-4 system card. Lastly, the value of plugins may go well beyond addressing existing limitations by helping users with a variety of new use cases, ranging from browsing product catalogs to booking flights or ordering food.Īt the same time, there’s a risk that plugins could increase safety challenges by taking harmful or unintended actions, increasing the capabilities of bad actors who would defraud, mislead, or abuse others. By increasing the range of possible applications, plugins may raise the risk of negative consequences from mistaken or misaligned actions taken by the model in new domains. From day one, these factors have guided the development of our plugin platform, and we have implemented several safeguards. We’ve performed red-teaming exercises, both internally and with external collaborators, that have revealed a number of possible concerning scenarios. For example, our red teamers discovered ways for plugins-if released without safeguards-to perform sophisticated prompt injection, send fraudulent and spam emails, bypass safety restrictions, or misuse information sent to the plugin. We’re using these findings to inform safety-by-design mitigations that restrict risky plugin behaviors and improve transparency of how and when they're operating as part of the user experience. We're also using these findings to inform our decision to gradually deploy access to plugins. This windup time was always something that made Sonic feel sloppier than his industry arch-rivals, and it's in full effect here. There's a windup to just about everything, from movement to jumping. It's not just stopping that takes a long time, which, hey, at least that makes sense. are capable of incredible speed, it's true, but there's a sluggishness as they work their way toward it. As I made my way through the revamped, reimagined Green Hill Zone that starts the game, it was hard not to feel a little giddy - could someone have made a Sonic that feels as good as I remembered the originals feeling?Īs it turns out, Sonic Mania is maybe too faithful. Sonic Mania, more than any Sega-led project of the last 20 years, feels exactly the way I remember the original trilogy. When it's working, this speed is exhilarating, and remarkably, no other game has ever managed to capture the same lightning in a bottle that Sonic did. Levels feel much bigger than they were in the Genesis games, with many, many more paths to barrel down, even as many enemies and bits of scenery hit your sense of nostalgia like a bucket of ice. That feeling of barely controlled speed is Sonic's original schtick, and it's leveraged for everything it's worth here. Instead, Sonic and his friends collect rings as they race through each level, looping and backtracking at speeds that seem too fast for even the game's camera to keep up. It's a side-scroller that is, ostensibly, a platformer, but it's nothing like its contemporaries. Sonic has a new ability, the Drop Dash, which allows him to immediately drop out of a jump and dash upon hitting the ground, but otherwise, you could draw a direct line between Sonic the Hedgehog 3/Sonic and Knuckles and Sonic Mania. This extends to the way Sonic Mania plays as well. It certainly looks like a Genesis game, or rather, a Sega CD release - animations are more detailed than I remember them being from the cartridge titles, though the color palette feels like it came directly from the Genesis. Sonic Mania looks achingly familiar, to the point where I'm not clear whether or not many assets have been pulled directly from existing Sonic games. If you've played any of the Genesis Sonic titles, Sonic Mania is going to look and feel familiar. Eggman once again steals a collection of powerful gems called Chaos Emeralds, and it's up to Sonic, constant companion Tails the Fox and frenemy Knuckles the Echidna to get them back and defeat Eggman until … well, whenever Sega rolls this whole thing out again. But in its fixation on making a perfect recreation of '90s-era Sonic, some of the series' more egregious recurring problems remain present - with some modern quality-of-life elements nowhere to be found. As a result, Sonic Mania feels like the series' Genesis-period ideas taken to logical extremes, and then some. The result is Sonic Mania, a game that feels slavishly, almost fetishistically devoted to the old-school branch of Sonic gameplay and design. Then Sega gave these same fan developers the keys to its mascot, a partnership between developer Christian Whitehead and studios Headcannon and PagodaWest games. Sega initially shut the project down, but in a move that surprised many, the publisher gave one of these developers the go-ahead to finish a port of Sonic CD for consoles and mobile platforms to generally positive reception. Meanwhile, various fan projects have sought to create new "traditional" Sonic games via hacked-in additions to original game code, as well as completely, faithfully recreated versions of '90s-era Sonics. Since then, Sega has tried to reinvent the series over and over, with middling success. While some fans defend the Sonic oeuvre from the Dreamcast onward, the series' best days were behind it, reaching its absolute nadir with 2006's disastrous Sonic the Hedgehog. With the jump to 3D in 1999's Sonic Adventure, the series retained its flash, but something was fundamentally broken in the translation. After the Genesis console faded, Sega went an entire hardware generation without a "proper" flagship Sonic release on the Saturn. Sega has had a nightmarish time trying to rekindle the magic and majesty of its iconic mascot since the blue hedgehog's peak in the '90s. With Sonic Mania, Sega has done the unthinkable for a corporate player in video games: They've given it to the fans. Only the ion channels in very close proximity to the action potential are affected, causing the action potential to be regenerated along the axon-this creates the movement of the action potential down the axon. The action potential occurs in a wave-like motion down the axon until it reaches the terminal button. This exchange of Na+ and K+ ions happens very rapidly, in less than one millisecond. The cell returns to the resting membrane potential, and the excess extracellular K+ diffuses away. In addition, the sodium-potassium pump is pushing Na+ out of the cell. With the Na+ channels closed, electrostatic pressure from a K+ charge gradient continues to push K+ out of the cell. The movement of K+ out of the cell causes the cell potential to return back to the resting membrane potential this is the falling or hyperpolarizing phase of the action potential (see Module 5.2).Ī short hyperpolarization occurs partially due to the gradual closing of the K+ channels. With the inside of the cell very positive relative to the outside of the cell (depolarized) and the high concentration of K+ within the cell, both the force of diffusion, along concentration gradients, and the force of electrostatic pressure, along charge gradients, drive K+ outside of the cell. The refractory period also ensures the action potential can only move in one direction down the axon, away from the soma.Īs the cell becomes more depolarized, a second type of voltage-dependent channel opens this channel is permeable to K+. Thus, a new action potential cannot occur during the refractory period. This means the Na+ channels cannot reopen again until after the cell returns to the resting membrane potential. At this point, the Na+ channels close and become refractory. The inside of the cell becomes very positively charged, from about +30mV to about +60mv, depending upon the particular neuron. This is responsible for the rising or depolarizing phase of the action potential (see Module 5.2). Once these channels are opened when trigger threshold has been reached, Na+ rushes inside the cell, causing the cell to become very positively charged relative to the outside of the cell. However, Na+ cannot permeate the membrane when the cell is at rest. As we learned earlier, both diffusion from concentration gradients and electrostatic pressure from charge gradients are pushing Na+ ions toward the inside of the cell. When the cell is at resting membrane potential, these voltage-dependent Na+ channels are closed. A voltage-dependent ion channel is a channel that opens, allowing some ions to enter or exit the cell, depending upon when the cell reaches a particular membrane potential (i.e. When the cell becomes depolarized (more positively charged) and reaches the threshold of excitation, this causes a voltage-dependent Na+ channel to open. Not surprisingly, some of these same ions are involved in the action potential. We discussed previously which ions are involved in maintaining the resting membrane potential. by Mariana Ruiz LadyofHats public domain by its author, LadyofHats). After developing that, you can then focus on setting, but know that given the constraints of theater, setting is often attributed to the imagination of the actors and audience, so fleshing out minute details for a 10-minute play may only be helpful for your own brainstorming. Develop at least one complex character to intrigue your audience, then if you get stuck, movie on to the conflict that is rooted in your story. There isn't a camera for editing, language for someone to read and process, but raw human connection between the actors and the audience.īecause of this, you'll really want to focus on character first and foremost. After you've asked the main question of your 10-minute play, you'll want to flesh out character, setting, and the conflict that derives from your question.įor theater, character is extremely important as the entire is communicated by people. For any story you write, you'll have to develop these things. Develop your character, conflict, and setting. It will give your play purpose, keep your story focused, and reveal many other important things like your story's theme and motifs. Whatever you ask, make this the thesis of your play. It can be a simple one, such as "What would happen if someone found their true love two months before their death?" to something more ambiguous like "Is loyalty good?" This truly goes for any play in my opinion, but it is something to keep in mind when writing a 10-minute play as it helps you avoid writing a sketch. Ask a questionĪccording to Sam Graber, every 10-minute play should ask a question. However you do it though, you'll want to stick to the following how-to: 1. Whether you do these things before you begin writing your play or after, is up to your short story writing approach. For best results, focus your brainstorm for a 10-minute play on the same things you would for a short story. When writing a 10-minute play, any method can be used to brainstorm the standard parts of any story, such as the character, world, and so forth. For a play, even characters do not change, there is a realization or arc to the narrative beyond this final point. The action following the climax is equally as important to understanding the story, whereas in a sketch, the punchline is the end of the narrative.Īdditionally, in sketches, there is no character development or purpose to the story besides the punchline. Instead, the climax just marks the apex of the story, not what the story has been working towards. Often a play can have something similar to a punchline called the climax, but that isn't what the story is completely working towards. While the difference is minute, a sketch tends to be working towards a punchline, even in dramatic instances, whereas a play has an arc to either the story or character. It might seem obvious that you should write a story with an arc of some sort, but often what can happen in 10-minute plays is that you'll end up writing a sketch instead of play. Your story really has to be 10-minutes long if you want to have a chance anywhere!) Create a story with an arc However, to make sure you're on target when writing, be sure to read each draft out loud with a timer on hand. You wouldn't ignore a word count rule for a short story, so neither should you ignore a time limit for a play.Īs a writer, the timing is somewhat beyond your control if you are not also directing your piece, as the speed at which lines are said can change the pace of your story. This is a fairly simple rule to understand, but when you're writing a 10-minute play, you actually must stick to the 10 minutes allotted to you. Requirements of a 10-Minute Play Stick to 10-minutes Below, you'll learn how to write a 10-minute play and tips for starting out. It usually is a vignette in a series of plays at a festival or competition and offers a great way to practice writing for theater. For those who are new to theater, a 10-minute play is a short story that lasts no more than 10 minutes long.
